HICARE fire blankets smother small fires in kitchens, labs, workshops and vehicles: a fiberglass blanket in a quick-pull pack, or an aluminized blanket stitched with Kevlar thread for higher heat.
HICARE fire blanket
A fire blanket puts out a small fire by cutting off its air. Pull the tapes, cover the burning pan, bin or machine, and leave it in place until it cools. It can also be wrapped around a person whose clothes have caught fire. HICARE makes two types.
Fiberglass fire blanket: woven fiberglass fire fabric, about 0.43 mm thick, heat resistant up to about 500°C (maker’s rating), in a wall-mount quick-pull pack. 1m x 2m for kitchens and labs, 2m x 2m for larger equipment.
Aluminized fire blanket: aluminized fiberglass stitched with Kevlar thread. The aluminized face reflects radiant heat, for furnaces, hot work and industrial use. 1m x 2m, other sizes on request.
Where to keep one
Next to the cooker in home and commercial kitchens, in labs, workshops, boiler rooms, generator rooms, buses and boats. For welding and grinding spatter, use a welding blanket. For burn injuries, see the water gel blanket. More in fire blankets.

Pull both tapes down sharply, hold the blanket in front of you to shield your hands, lay it over the fire and leave it until everything has cooled. Switch off gas or power if it is safe to do so.
Can a fire blanket be reused?
A fiberglass blanket that has been used on a fire should be replaced, as the fabric may be damaged or contaminated.
Which size do I need?
1m x 2m covers a cooker or small machine. Choose 2m x 2m for larger equipment or to wrap a person.
