Newage air release valve for dry riser systems
A dry riser stays empty until the fire brigade pumps water into it. Before water can reach the outlets, the air inside the pipe has to get out. The Newage air release valve sits at the highest point of the riser and lets that air escape. It has a gunmetal body, a rubber ball seal and a 1 inch BSP male threaded inlet.
It is listed under valves in our fire hydrant fittings range, from Newage.
How the rubber ball works
While the pipe fills, air pushes out through the valve. When water reaches the top, it lifts the rubber ball against its seat and the valve closes, so water does not spill out. When the riser is drained, the ball drops and the valve opens again, ready for the next use. No power or manual action is needed.
Why trapped air matters
- Air pockets slow the filling of the riser and delay water at the upper floors
- Air pushed out suddenly at an outlet can cause surges and hammering
- Pockets at high points reduce the flow available at the outlets
Where to fit it
Fit one at the top of each dry riser, above the highest landing valve. It works with the Newage fire brigade inlet connection at ground level, where the fire engine connects, and the Newage landing valves on each floor. The same valve is also used at high points of other water lines where air collects. Newage makes a ¾ inch BSP inlet version as well; ask if you need it.
