SafePro mechanical foam fire extinguisher for fuel and oil fires
The SafePro mechanical foam fire extinguisher holds a mix of water and AFFF (aqueous film forming foam) concentrate. As the mix leaves the special nozzle it draws in air and turns into foam. A mechanical foam fire extinguisher lays a blanket over a burning liquid, which cuts off air and holds back the vapour, while the water in the foam cools the surface. The manufacturer lists it for Class A and Class B fires.
It belongs to our foam based extinguishers within the fire extinguishers collection by SafePro.
Why “mechanical” foam?
Older chemical foam units mixed two chemicals to make foam. In a mechanical foam unit, the foam is made by air mixing with the AFFF solution at the nozzle. The cylinder is stored pressure, so it is ready to use as soon as you pull the pin.
Where foam works well
- Petrol pumps, diesel yards and DG set rooms
- Paint shops, varnish and solvent stores
- Garages, service stations and transport depots
- Chemical stores and oil-handling sections of factories
Foam is aimed at spilled, pooled liquids. For pressurised gas leaks or live electrical panels, keep a CO2 fire extinguisher or BC fire extinguisher close by.
6 Ltr or 9 Ltr?
The 6 Ltr size is easier to lift and suits small garages and paint stores. The 9 Ltr size carries more foam for fuel stations and depots. For tank farms and big yards, the SafePro mechanical foam trolley fire extinguisher goes up to large wheeled sizes.
