Newage fireman axe for forcible entry and rescue
When a door is jammed, a window has to come out or a partition blocks the way to a trapped person, fire teams reach for an axe. The Newage fireman axe has a carbon steel head for hard cutting and striking work and a rubber-covered handle that gives a firm hold even with wet gloves.
It is listed under fireman axes in our fireman accessories section, made by Newage.
What a fireman axe is used for
- Opening locked or jammed doors and shutters during rescue
- Breaking glass to let smoke out or to reach a person
- Cutting through wooden partitions, false ceilings and debris
- Clearing a path for the hose team
Carbon steel head, rubber grip
Carbon steel holds an edge and takes repeated heavy blows, which is what forcible entry asks of a tool. The rubber grip reduces hand shock and stops the axe slipping. The handle is rubber insulated, but always switch off the electrical supply before cutting near wiring; never treat the grip as protection for live electrical work.
Where to keep a fireman axe
Mount it at fire points, in fire stations and on fire tenders, in factory emergency stores and in security cabins. Many sites keep it near the hydrant hose: beside a Newage fire hose box holding a triple purpose branch pipe, with a SafePro ABC fire extinguisher close by. Wipe the head after use and keep a light coat of oil on it to stop rust.
