SafePro 63 mm instantaneous fire hose coupling, male and female
A fire hose coupling is the metal end fitted to each side of a fire hose. The SafePro 63 mm instantaneous coupling comes as a male and female pair. “Instantaneous” means the male end is pushed into the female end and locks with a click, with no threads to turn. This lets hoses be joined to each other, to a landing valve or to a branch pipe in seconds.
It is part of our hose couplings range under fire hydrant fittings, from SafePro. Choose aluminium, gun metal or stainless steel above.
Male and female: which end goes where?
- Female end: has the locking lugs and a rubber washer, and receives the male end.
- Male end: the plain spigot that pushes in and locks. Branch pipe inlets are male.
A standard hose length has a male coupling on one end and a female on the other, so lengths can be joined in a line.
Aluminium, gun metal or stainless steel?
- Aluminium: the lightest option, easy to carry on long hose runs.
- Gun metal: heavy copper alloy, the traditional choice on hydrant systems.
- Stainless steel: bright finish, often matched with SS valves and branch pipes.
When you need new couplings
Replace a coupling when the lugs no longer lock firmly, the washer leaks or the hose has been cut and re-bound. New fire hoses such as the SafePro RRL fire hose pipe 63 mm come with couplings fitted. For the hose end, see the short branch pipe with nozzle.
