SafePro fire hose reel drum for quick first response
A fire hose reel drum is a round drum fixed to the wall with a rubber hose wound on it and a shut-off nozzle at the end. It stays connected to the water line all the time. In an emergency, one person opens the valve, pulls the hose off the drum and starts spraying water, without having to couple hoses. That is why a hose reel is often the first tool used on a small fire before the bigger hydrant hose is laid out.
The SafePro fire hose reel drum is part of our hose reel range under fire hydrant fittings, from SafePro. Choose the hose length above.
Choosing the hose reel length
- 30 m: the common choice for offices, flats, shops and floors where every corner is within a short walk of the reel.
- 45 m: wider floor plates, basements and hotel corridors.
- 60 m: large sheds, warehouses and open plant areas.
Measure the walking path from the reel to the farthest corner, not the straight line. A longer hose is heavier to wind back, so pick the length the area actually needs.
Where hose reels are installed
Hose reels are usually mounted next to the landing valve in the floor’s hose box or on a wall near the staircase. In factories they are placed along walkways and near machines. Many buildings fit both: a reel for first aid fire fighting and a landing valve with a 63 mm RRL hose for heavier use.
Hose reel or fire extinguisher?
A hose reel gives a steady supply of water for Class A fires such as wood, paper and cloth, but water should never be used on live electrical equipment or oil fires. Keep suitable fire extinguishers next to it for those risks.
