Why hold a fire mock drill
People do not rise to the occasion in a fire; they fall back on what they have practised. A mock drill is the only way to find out whether the alarm can be heard everywhere, whether exits are open, whether wardens know their floors and how long it really takes to get everyone out.
Drills are also what inspectors, insurers and client auditors ask about. Our written debrief gives you a dated record of the drill, the timings and the actions you took.
Make the drill count
- Train first: fire safety training for everyone and fire warden training for the people who lead.
- Check the equipment: fire extinguishers, alarms and exit signs should work before the drill. A fire safety audit finds the gaps.
- Repeat it: most workplaces hold drills at least once or twice a year, and every shift should take part over time.
